My Rag Rug

This video is a portrait of my grandmother. A weaver and spinner, a fiddler, blacksmith, gardener, birder, and storyteller, Ava Lutteman grew up in the backcountry of Idaho, where her parents were outfitters. Lutteman leads an old time lifestyle. She learned to weave rag rugs as in homage to her own grandmother. With music from the Alan Lomax Collection at the American Folklife Center, Library of Congress. Courtesy of the Association for Cultural Equity.

I’ve interviewed and photographed my Grandma Great since I was a teenager. Below, photos of her in her magical home and garden.
